Daniel: Dealing with Disruptions |

Have you ever thought life was going a certain way, only to find that something happens to steer things in a different direction? (If you're like any, something that happens fairly frequently) An untimely event, such as job transfer or loss, an accident, loss of a loved one or friend, a debilitating sickness, etc. - the list goes on and on. Any of these things can turn life on its side, causing massive confusion that can often be emotionally and mentally paralyzing. But let's face it - things much smaller than these can throw us for a loop.
It's often been said that so much of life is how you respond to the curves that it throws you. That is the heart of where character is built. You see, the Bible is clear that tough times, in the long run, actually bring about good. In James 1:3-4 is says' "For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything."
Nowhere is this principle played any more effectively than in the story of Daniel. He was a boy / man / older man whose life was about dealing with the curves life threw him. But he discovered that things didn't happen by accident, and he knew that 'fate' really had nothing to do with anything. Rather, he took the bumps as they came, building a resilient life that would be ready for anything, and just about everything DID come!
Join us this weekend as we begin this new message series called "Daniel: Dealing with Disruptions". Maybe you'll learn how to appreciate those little - and big - things that seem to turn life upside down! |

An excerpt from Bud Wrenn's upcoming book “Innovative Planning: Church in 4-D” due out in early 2009 from Chalice Press.
The day was really good, actually. Our church had been going through the proverbial ‘summer doldrums’—you know, with church family traveling and taking part in summer fun activities. We had pretty much focused on making our weekend celebrations the best they could be. After all, with peoples’ attention diverted so much during the summer, we did not have a lot of other things we could do.
